eBay - How to Decide What to Sell On eBay - The Easy Way

!±8± eBay - How to Decide What to Sell On eBay - The Easy Way

The Most commonly asked question on eBay is 'what can I sell' when in fact the question that potential sellers should be asking is 'what do the buyers want to buy?'

This weekend I picked up a magazine and it had two full page ads in it, one was selling a miniature ornament of a Cinderella shoe, and another ad was selling imitation wedding rings that they said were original copies of the Royal Wedding ring... for .99.

What those full page ads in a national magazine cost I have no idea, but one thing is for sure; The companies that paid for those ads knew that their products would sell.

And so will you after following this five step guide.

Firstly I would like to say this, I have absolutely no interest in this particular product, this is in fact a product that I had never even heard of until five minutes ago and I stumbled upon it purely by chance.

Please sort out a category of articles for yourself that might be more suitable just for this particular test.

Here is what I just did, (you do not need an eBay account to do this);
Go to eBay.com. In the search box type in sunglasses and then click on the search button. The number of pairs of sunglasses for sale when I just did that was 269,000 obviously it will be different for you. You now have an approximate idea of how many pairs of sunglasses are on sale on eBay at any given moment (keeping in mind that it is summer at the moment). But now for the big question 'How many of them get sold?' So staying on the same eBay page click on the advanced button not the search button, and on the page that that takes you to just tick the completed listings box. That will then show you the results for the last 14 days, what sold and for how much. The ones that never sold the amount is shown in red, and the ones that did sell the amount is shown in green. When I just looked about 90% of them were in red which means they never sold, but I scrolled down and the first pair of sunglasses that I came to that had sold were in green and they were named Oakley sunglasses (ok I admit it I had never heard of them either till now).

Now for important bit

Now go back to step two but this time do not just type in 'sunglasses' type in Oakley sunglasses and then use the same process as before, I just did that and when I clicked the advanced button it showed me that in the last 14 days that 8,903 pairs of Oakley sunglasses had been sold (and for how much) At the present moment there are 5,517 pairs for sale, which is good as the usual eBay sale usually lasts for either 7 or 10 days.

In summary:

It is not the fault of eBay that some items in a category will sell better that others.

In this instance sunglasses do sell well, you just have to sell the ones that are in demand. Simple as that.

You cannot decide what people should buy, but if you can find out what people want (as we did in this case) then trust me you don't have to sell it, eBay will do that for you,

Good hunting, regards Max.
